stony brook was one of my first interviews. i interviewed for their gen surg program. i really liked the program. they are sensitive about losing the best applicants to the programs in the City. talk about how much you love long island. this subject WILL be brought up at every interview. the faculty i found were extremely pleasant. the program director is a JHU trained surgeon. the residents were friendly and tend to do well getting fellowships. you are 1 hour from the City. beautiful area. no call during the week. one month of night float in trauma surgery. one call each weekend for three weekends a month, then the fourth weekend you have off. strict 80 hrs. hospital architecturally looks a little like the star wars death star. overall, a decent program worth looking at. you'll be pleasantly surprised.
