Ok, so in the past month I've seen a fair share of 20+DAT; 3.8+ GPA "will I get in" threads...

So either you guys really like your egos padded or you need a major Rx for Chill pills...

Thus, here are my stats that helped me get into all the schools (except, ironically, my safety).

GPA-4.0; DAT: 19/19/17

Now relax.

Damn, that's sick. Where did you get into?

I applied this past cycle with a 3.6+ GPA, Chemistry major, 22DAT and did not get in. No "red flags" in terms of disciplinary issues or anything like that but I did get a low bio score (17).

If you don't mind me asking... did you get any interviews? And how many schools did you apply to?

you cant expect to get many interviews if you applied late october.

I got 6. 2 in nov. surprisingly I was rejected without interview from all the new schools, NYU, USC & Boston. Applied to over 20 schools.

What!? Harvard with 19/19/17!? You must have some serious research under your belt.

I don't know how you can tell applicants applying this cycle, for the C/O 2018, to just "relax."

You were presumably accepted into DS in 2008 (looking at your class year). That was 5 years ago. The average AA for enrollees back then was an 18... for last year, it was a 19.9. That is almost a 2 point increase, which is a very large difference especially on the DAT.

While I do agree that many of these posts with the 25DAT and 3.8GPA asking for a "chance me" is ridiculous, please don't give false hope to applicants since your statistics are very outdated and more importantly, we don't know anything your background story which does play a large role in DS acceptances. Your 19 in 2008 is equivalent to a 20+ DAT in 2013...

while I do agree that his stats were from a few years ago. You still don't need 23AA and 3.8 GPA to get in.

with a 3.5 GPA, 19-20 DAT, and 10-12 schools, you should be able to get in.

Check out the under 20 AA DAT club thread. Tons of people got in and that was only last year

Agreed, and the 3.5 GPA and 20-21 range is the average for matriculation for a reason (that's the score for most students!)

While I do think the OP's initial intent was to address the people with the 25 DATs and 3.8 GPAs specifically, I was afraid that other applicants with similar scores as OP (19/19/17) think they have a chance at getting into Harvard, when in fact that is no longer the case, hence the false hope statement.

In regards to the under 20AA thread, or under 3.0 GPA thread, do keep in mind that the odds are against you. While you can have under a 3.0 and 20AA and get accepted, statistically speaking, if I had to make a bet I would bet against you. "Tons of people" (what is the actual number, 10? 20? What about 30?) getting in out of how many who are actually applying? To really have a "good chance" I would say you definitely need to hit the averages (that is the 3.5 and 20+). For those interested in the specifics, take a look at Doc Toothache's excel sheets. Plethora of information. Not trying to be devil's advocate here, just want applicants to have the most up to date information and a more realistic idea of where they stand.

TLDR, fast forward to 2013/14 application cycle. You will NOT (repeat: WILL NOT) get into Harvard with your DATs. I can't really imagine what extravagant EC/research/etc you will need in order for Harvard to look past those scores. They are very elitist and everyone knows that (well deserved, mind you).

Other schools definitely a chance still.

😕 Why even comment then? It was already stated above.

I don't think it's smart whatsoever to assume an acceptance is guaranteed, no matter the DAT scores or GPA. That cockiness could really come across in an interview, and I'm assuming that wouldn't be taken very well. Plus, none of us are God's gift to dentistry, and we shouldn't feel that way.

I will clarify a little bit, though. I think once you hit a certain range, you could always get in SOMEWHERE (unless you are an incredibly rude and pompous person in your interviews). But that doesn't mean you could get into somewhere that is a top choice or affordable, which should be extremely important.
