Well I put down $2,000 deposit to Columbia..
but I got into UCSF today..😱😱😱
Columbia still haven't cashed my check...
you think I can stop the check through calling my bank?
Damn I love Columbia and it's a perfect match for me..
but UCSF is also a fantastic school and is so much cheaper..
Can't really decide but I feel like I am going to go for UCSF..
don't want to waste $2,000.. deposit is due today but I can't decide..
I love Columbia...it's a great school...but UCSF is also a great school..
I feel so sorry to stop my check...is it even legal?😱😱😕

If you want to go to UCSF, then do it. Call up your bank and ask them the penalty. Columbia cant demand the money. If you end up accepting a school and decide you dont want to go to dental school and not pay the tuition, they are out of luck and you dont owe them money. Same thing, jsut cancel before its cashed.

You better get on that IMMEDIATELY. There is a fee of up to 50 to stop the payment, however non refundable once Columbia Deposists the check. Stop it immediately and the school may charge you a return check fee for stop payment, but obviously nothing compared to 2000

haha. so i was pretty much put in this same exact position. I found out yesterday from UCSF, so called columbia today. The woman there...ms. lugo...was super nice and said that it wouldn't be a problem if the check hadn't processed, if it had been processed she'd have to look into what we'd have to do next, but she remembered what it was like to be a student and would do whatever she could to get the money back even though it says it's non-refundable.

i'm actually from florida and was much more impressed by UCSF's program. i liked their atmosphere better, location, facilities, externships, integrated biomedical science course (rather than the ridiculous load of med and dental courses at columbia), the p/np with letters of commendation and honors for individual professors rather than h/p/f. anyway, that's just my take...i think columbia has an awesome program for those who want to specialize...especially OMFS because of the heavy med influence...but i'm undecided about going into general dentistry or a specialty program, and i think that UCSF gives me the possibility to do both (even a D3 and D4 student at UCSF stated that as UCSF's greatest strength). i definitely think that columbia was lacking in the clinical experience. that's just my 2 cents...UCSF's program just met everything i was looking for in a program...and columbia didn't...they're both awesome programs though...and congrats into getting accepted too! i'm sure everything will work out no matter what decision you choose... you'll receive a super stellar education either way.
