One of my patients today heard on the radio that it was going to snow tomorrow--obviously an April Fool's joke.
She started declaring it was going to snow, believing it was true. The treatment team had told her that it was a joke. She is quite child-like and not seeing it snow could cause her to get upset.
She became upset, acted out and called the radio station to prove to us it was going to snow.
She ended up calling the station in an intrusive manner, to the point where the station didn't want her contacting them anymore.
Well let's just say the story ended up with her getting some haldol.
I'm now wondering if a media ban should happen on inpatient units on April Fools......
