Hi there,
This is a strange question but does anyone remember reading in your first aid some little factoid stating that when you are 2 or 3 years old you are half your adult height? I was thinking about this the other day and it just doesn't seem right...maybe I read it wrong.... 😕

im not sure if it's in FA, but a person should be half his/her adult height by age 3

That is so not true. More like 1/3 rd adult size.

consider this... a 3 y.o. is under 3 ft tall. by adult age, this person will grow to be under 6 ft tall. been awhile since i've had peds, but im pretty sure most 3 y.o. are a few inches under 3 ft

It is in Kaplan's Behavioral Science book. I thought it was BS.

This is just the kind of information one should NOT study for Step I.

It is a true fact....in fact there is a formula to predict the adult height of a kid based on the heights of the parents AND the height of the kid at the age of 2-3.
Refer to Nelson book of Paediatrics for the full info.

However, I ABSOLUTELY agree with big frank s opinion on this is NOT the stuff which needs to be learned for step 1

Yep, we were taught that in endocrine in med school. I believe it is either age 2 or 2 1/2 that is, barring external factors such as malnutrition or illness, almost exactly half your adult height.
