I'm trying to get an idea of study material for the MCAT. I'll be taking it March 2018 so I would like to start studying this summer. I was thinking, after some research and reviews, that I would purchase the Kaplan 7 book series 2016 and use khan academy to clear up and concepts I need to work on.

Does this seem like a good plan or should I do more? I would love to do the Kaplan course that's $1999 but I just can't afford that.

Thank you!

Save your money and time by not doing the prep course. I've heard mixed reviews about it. If you are self-sufficient and can motivate yourself, you'll be fine.

With that being said, what's your background with the MCAT material (i.e. Do you need a lot of review, a little, etc.)?

I'm still working on my undergrad with two semester left all packed full of pertinent MCAT courses. I did a lot of gen eds early on and that way the end of my degree would be a rigorous and full schedule of all upper division sciences. So I'm not really sure yet what kind of prep I'll need but I've given myself ample time to study if I need a lot. I'm thinking things will still be pretty fresh in my head so I'm hoping I will just need refreshers.

The different study material are all geared towards different people. For instance, BR is very, very detailed (some consider it overkill), while EK is concise and "superficial." I would look into which content review that you need when the time comes. A lot of people recommend that you study no longer than 6 months ahead of your MCAT date. The recommended study time is ~3 months.

So if I'm planning on graduating in December 2017, starting to study after graduation until the March MCAT would give me sufficient time to study?
And I'm sorry, but what is EK?

That should be plenty, considering that your classes are geared towards the MCAT and you are diligent/motivated when studying.

EK = Examkrackers
