I've noticed on most supplemental apps there is a space to list other dental schools you are applying to.

Not to get all conspiracy theory on it, but does anyone have any opinion on how to handle this? Do you think there is a strategy behind listing other schools you are applying to? It just seems like such a random question to ask on an app--I doubt that dental schools would put a question on an application just for the sake of asking, you know?

For example, two applicants, IDENTICAL EVERYTHING, applicant A has 25 other schools written down, and applicant B has 3. Are they the exact same applicant? I feel like applicant B would come off as "more interested."

An obvious answer to that could be that applicant A can simply afford to apply to 25 schools and applicant B can't, I'm just curious what you other predents feel about it/what your approach might be.

I always listed my 18 schools on my 2ndaries or.... told them in my interview how many schools and which of them I have interviews at.... My chances weren't affected at all by this whatsoever.

Matter of fact, I have a theory about this. Students who are REALLY serious about this profession, will apply to alot of schools cause they don't care where they have to relocate, they just wanna get in.

Between the above scenario, Student 'A' wants dentistry more than Student 'B'..... This whole non-sense about being "more interested" is a moot, most people who apply base their decision on other (more important) factors such as: schools average stats, schools out-of-state friendliness, tuition, etc etc..... Believe me, spending about $150 on AADSAS + 2ndary on each school is plenty "interested" to me.

I agree with DW. Of the 10 schools I applied to, about 3 asked me how many/where I applied. I told them the truth, and I recall one interviewer saying "that sounds like a good number; dental schools are so competitive these days."
