Hello,

Just wondering for step 1 what is the treatment protocol for a Strep. Pneumo infection?

First aid says that Penicillin can be used for strep pneumo, and macrolides if they are allergic.

However I have had questions saying that Ceftriaxone/macrolides are preffered dt resistance.

Thanks!

Penicillin monotherapy isn't used as first-line treatment for CAP as far as I've seen.

Golijan also says that Penicillin G is used for strep pneumo. I'm going to keep that in the back of my mind in case I need it, but that's as far as I'm going to go with it.

As far as I'm aware its macrolides for pneumonia, amoxicillin for OM/sinusitis, ceftriaxone/cefotaxine/vancomycin for meningitis.

S pneumoniae does fall in the spectrum of pen G though.
