I tend to get stressed out way too much and I think this past semester, I've aged roughly 5 years...haha
For all you with the "keep it cool" attitude, any tips on managing stress? 😕

I've noticed lately that I don't take things in stride anymore myself... when I get very stressed out, I actually find myself feeling physically ill! My diaphragm starts doing weird stuff... and I feel absolutely exhausted. Also, I've never had trouble sleeping, but lately I have. I hope that's not the start of a trend.

I haven't really exercised (consistently) in over a year... but I remember when I was doing that, it was such a stress reliever. I need to find a way to get back to that.

Any other suggestions?

meds 😳 j/k

Want to be less stressed? Stop reading SDN! 😉 Just kidding.

I just try to keep everything in perspective...honestly, if I don't get into XXX med school this year, will it be the end of my life? People have such varied roads to their final career and it seems like those people for whom the path isn't straightforward turn out to be the most satisfied when they get there. Easy to say but hard to put into practice, I know...

When I start feeling like I can't breathe because I'm so overwhelmed, I do some deep breathing exercises and then go take a walk, even if it's a short one. And as everyone says, exercise is very key. Take it easy!

I could tell you what Snoop Dog would do, if that helps.

But honestly, I agree that exercise is a big help.

I'm finished with the MCAT's and I still can't poop. My doctor offered to put me on med's but I'm trying to regulate it with diet and yoga. 😱

I've been exercising and it helps a lot. Even if you just get out for a couple of short runs/walks a week it helps stress and sleeping. Besides running, I've found going to the rock climbing gym is a great way to blow off some steam (if you're not a climber, you can always start).

Also, watching my diet has helped as well. And.... as much of a joke as it was meant to be... stop reading SDN. Or at least limit it. It knots me up.

Last, but not least. Go out with friends who aren't mixed up in this crazy process. They'll give your perspective a good kick in the right direction

Rock climbing is so fun. I took a class at my school's rec center one quarter and my arms were very, very toned after my last class.

Yoga is a good way of relieving stress in areas you didn't know you had stress. Plus, the breathing exercises really help with meditation. For a real stress reliver, try Bikram Yoga (the classes are held in high-temp studios).

I have weird OCD traits, so another way I relieve stress is by cleaning and organizing things in my apartment. The end result is you end up with cleaner living spaces AND you've taken out stress and frustration on the dirt and disorganization around you.

you'd be surprised at how eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly reduces stress.

careful with those doctor meds. sometimes it's not an oral med and is a pill you have to push up the other end. my cousin had to do that once and we made fun of him forever.

i agree with the exercise thing. Last year, i ran all the time. This year, i'm ice skating about 3 times a week. Plus, i stopped eating campus food, and i cannot tell you how much better i feel. I used to always feel bloated, and disgusting, and when you feel like that, it affects you in every way. Since i started cooking my own food, I've lost weight, i have more energy, and i don't let things get to me as much.

also, have you tried a (insert your gender here) night out? me and my roomate make sure to have a girls night out at least once a month, just cause it's fun. it keeps you sane, and lets you know there are other people doing other things out there.

Ha, this is no joke. This site stresses me out everytime I am on here. I eventually end up at mdapplicants.com and that really messes with my head.

run...it helps with stress and also for those with the pooping prob's.... 👍

maybe you're eating poorly or not drinking enough water...both of these have a considerate impact on bowel health and regularity

I sound this sounds trite, but try increasing your intake of fruits, uncooked vegetables, and insoluble fiber (mmmmm shredded wheat)

or you could have IBS...
