Hi All,

First thanks for trying to help. I am like most and am trying to make a decision between Vcom and Erie-E. I really like both schools, they seem to be about in the same price, distance from my family, and class size (I chose LPD for Erie E). But I am reviewing everything from each school and had some questions trying to figure out what school is best for me.

Match List:

I was looking at vcoms match list and many students were listed under "Traditional rotating" What does that mean? I thought that you went to residency after school. Is this b/c the school is new? I am not sure.

Erie also gave a match list that was nice b/c some people were matched in my home town but it didn't say if the students were doing a "traditional rotation" or if they went to blah blah blah fot blah blah blah.

Rotations:

How to rotations generally work? For example do you only rotate in the area you wish to match or do you stay one place for a week and move to another. I am asking b/c Erie has rotation sites in my home town in PA, VCOM does not, but I asked a current student and she that some people are able to do their rotations oos. I would like to stick close to home as possible b/c both my dad and brother were in the hospital for months with serious issues therefore If I can, I want to be near them.

DO/Phd:

I was really attracted to VCOM b/c of the DO/Phd program but on my interview day the host student said "It is not that good, many students have a hard time doing the DO/Phd program" Is this something I should take lightly? He was not a DO/Phd student so I was wondering if anyone had any info in regards to it.

Newness:

Ok this is the last thing. Lecom E has been around 12 years, Vcom 5. Do you think that the newness of a school has an effect on the quality of education you receive. I was looking at vcom and noticed that it was not middle states approved but that Erie was. Is this a big issue?

Thank you guys so much in advanced. Please do not put any school down. I am not trying to figure out which one is best in general, only what is best for me. Thank you again and have a great weekend. 🙂

I don't know what middle states approved means....

One cool thing about VCOM that I just noticed today is that a student matched Orthopedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in their very first (and only so far) graduating class.

If you don't know Cleveland Clinic they are ranked #4 in orthopedics nationally.

Yep theyre hospital is ranked above Johns Hopkins, Duke, Columbia...

Lake Erie is cold and snowy too boo. Plus with VCOM you get all the advantages of VTECH, which are amazing.

Cleveland Clinic has a great reputation for a lot of things.

Yeah my husband just got to Erie a couple hours ago and said there was like 6-7 inches of snow around his rental car. It's also about 40+ degrees colder there than here right now. 😱

not to sound overly stupid, but did the student from VCOM match into a MD or DO orthopedic residency?

That's craziness! I think it's a shock to my husband's system. It is 58 degrees here right now and definitely not snowing. Although I think next week we have the chance for a "wintry mix".

Didn't it snow up in the Big D on Thanksgiving? Y'all are in DFW area, right?

Yep it sure did and I was loving it!! 😍 Of course it didn't last long and melted almost immediately. We are in DFW. Closer to FW than D. 😀

Good. You can put some space between yourselves and the shiny-shirt-wearing, whole-canister-of-hair-gel-using, $40,000/year millionaires that inhabit Dallas.

I am not a big fan of Big D. It's like LA without the movie stars.

Not a stupid question- this is where he matched (osteopathic)

http://www.southpointehospital.org/

I didn't realize it until you asked but it is actually a branch because the site says "a cleveland clinic hospital".

makes sense now, it's pretty much impossible for a DO to match into an MD orthopedic residency, and seeing there is a DO one, why would they want to..

wow i use spot too much lol
