Hey guys, I've been backing away from my problems lately because I've just been really stressed. I recently had a set-back in my quest to medical school. I am a junior doing pre-med and for the most part, I have received good grades in my sciences, A's and B's. I recently took physics 1 with organic chemistry 2 along with labs for each and other courses and it was overwhelming to say the least. I got by orgo but pulled an all nighter for the physics final and got a D as my final grade. I just blanked out during the exam and now I feel my chances at med school are completely bashed. I've never gotten below a B in a class and it has made me take a semester away for science courses. I just need encouraging advice. I wanted to go to med school right after I graduate but now idk if I should retake it and get an A (which I know I can do) or just to physics 2. I'm gonna be a senior next semester. When would I take the MCAT now? So many questions but no answers. Please help!

retake physics and get an A in the course

DO schools accept retakes in replacement of grades below C.

Explore the DO option if you are truly passionate about becoming a physician

Also getting A's and Bs in pre req courses is okay, but you should really strive for A-/As in the pre reqs if you can.

Do everything you can to put your full effort forth in your classes.

Don't overload with more than one science if you cant get As in both.
Just do what you can to get that GPA number as high as possible

Again, if you want to be a doctor, don't give up. retake physics and go the DO route. But even for DO admissions, you need to keep your GPA high.

You can recover from one D, but the more important thing is to examine your own study habits and time management. Those are the most important skills you can build, and the ability to build them too (kind of meta). You didn't "blank out" — you crammed and it didn't work.

Do you have a pre-med advisor at your school? or a professor you trust? go talk to them.

Think big and think long-term.

hard to offer advice without more details...whats your GPA? major? what did you get in orgo?

you likely will have to retake the D in physics though

I got B in Orgo and my gpa was just under a 3.5. I'm majoring in psych and will probably focus on neuropsych. Also I am wondering if I should take more science classes to boost my gpa

Does this mean that 1 D would completely end my chances at MD? What if I retake it and get an A, which I know I can easily do.
