Hey everyone,

I'm soo stressed out this quarter with all the classes, applications and things that I am doing this qurater. I am wondering how much do Fall 2004 grades matter bc I have a super hard midterm coming up and I feel so unprepared. So far, up until this quarter I have a GPA 3.5 from UCSD, prereq~3.45. I have lots of excurricular, leadership activities including pharmacy volunteer experiences. HOwever, I fear receiving a C in my Mammalian Physiology class and I realized that's important too for pharmacy school- it's just that I have a feeling I'll totally bomb the midterm on Tuesday but I can't drop the class and there is still another midterm, and final left which I can study my butt off for. So if I earn like A's and B's in my other 3 classes, and a C in this one class, do you think it will change my chances of admissions much? 🙁

thanks,
tami

I don't think it'll decrease your chances. If that is your only C, be prepared to explain why you received that grade.

Hey Pharm_tam,
What clubs do UCSD that are related to pharmacy? such as chem or is there a pre pharm club youre apart of? I start in the winter quarter and I am interested in joining a club or somthing. thanks!

you're basically doomed... you might want to rethink your future plans

OoShimmeroO is joking. as long as you have a good PCAT score and and your gpa doesn't fall dramatically, you should be fine.

s13, ucsd doesn't even look at your pcat score

tami... it sounds like you're doing well - one C won't kill ya 😉 i know if your gpa was a bit lower and looked more like a roller coaster ride (extreme highs & lows from quarter to quarter), they'd probably table your app until they see your fall grades. but i honestly cant say anything about ucsd or how their admissions process works. g'luck finishing the quarter strong! 🙂

So long as it's not OChem or GChem that the C is in....

One class will never kill you. Schools always look at the long haul. It only matters if it's a trend, like if you tended to get a lot of C's in one area like Biology or a lot of C's in Chem. Then that would be a problem. Since you have a prereq GPA of 3.45, I wouldn't be too worried since you have shown you can do well in your math/sciences. Just try your best and see if you can pull at least a B.

Do *not* let just one class get you down in the dumpsters!! A "C" is not the end of the world. Not sure what schools you are applying to, but some school applications have a section where you can 'explain' any circumstances that may have affected your GPA. It's an opportunity to explain, maybe you're taking 19 science/math units in one quarter to finish the prereqs and it was an especially challenging quarter. They will take that into consideration, esp. since other applicants may be taking some of their science classes one-by-one, with more time to spend on the material. At this point, it's just getting as much of your personality and personal info down on paper, so that you can dazzle them at the interviews. 🙂
good luck!!

I agree. USC I believe specifically had a section where you could explain any sort of blip on your transcript.

I think I would be stressed out...they looked at my app and said "hmmmm...you got a C in mammalian physiology, I guess you will not be able to immunize monkeys this year." And that was the end of pharmacy school for me! Seriously though, I withdrew from classes 3 terms in a row and was accepted, so I would doubt that a single C is going to hurt you. Incidently my overall GPA was exactly the same as yours.

Calm Down! Don't worry about it! The average PrePharmD gpa is around 3.5 nowadays. That means there are people below and above it. You're right smack in the middle. I made a C in a course and I'm now attending one of the best PharmD schools in the nation. Good luck on applying! Stop worrying 👍

and remember...i've been hearing this around lately..

C to PharmD!

...unfortunately not D to PharmD 🙄

First off, that's once a person gets into pharmacy school. Secondly, I wouldn't want to have anything filled by a pharmacist who made D's "to get by," if that were ever an option. The C = PharmD thing isn't so cool when you're trying to go for a residency, either. 👍

I'm definitely concerned about my fall grades this year too... :scared:
Getting in was definitely not the hardest part for me.....
