African American male that wants to serve in underrepresented communities. My overall gpa is a 3.16. It’s an upward trend. I stared off extremely bad. Didn’t know what I wanted at that point. I have F’s in general chemistry 2, organic chemistry 1 and lab, biology 142, physics 111 and genetics. Was on academic probation at one point. Retook the classes had A’s in all of them. The past 5 semesters, I have had 4.0’s. A’s in biochemistry, all organic chemistry courses, physics 112 etc and TA’d for those classes. Made sure to get recommendations from the professors that I failed their classes in. 2 years of research in psychology. Got published

Undergrad GPA 3.7 but only because the second class grade replaces the first failing grade and is not averaged out. MCAT score 520

Want to apply to Howard, Meharry and Morehouse- first choice being Morehouse because my mentor and doctor I have shadowed the most is an associate professor there.

Volunteered at kidney dialysis center for 160 hrs. Have over 300 hrs of physician shadowing because of my mentor.

What are my chances of getting in? Should I rather just do an MPH because of the amount of Fs I have. Extremely stressed. Please help with advice. Thanks

Med school apps will use the 3.16 as AMCAS and AACOMAS do not replace grades.

How old is the last F? And how spread out were those Fs - were they all in the same semester? same year? 1st two years?

You stand a pretty decent chance, however I'll let someone else chime in with school recs. It would be good to consider both MD and DO though due to the generally less forgiving nature of MD, but someone else who may have more familiarity with various school requirements/trends, etc may have better info on that.

Good luck!
