So, yesterday I got too take care of my first stripping related injury. Those pesky poles can cause some good bruises and tendonitis.

I once had to take care of a stripper that "attempted suicide" using a Mach 3 razor. She had 3 parallel superficial cuts on each wrist, perpendicular to the long axis. I put TAO on them, and covered them.
She kept letting her gown top fall down (she was in a gown because we had to call mobile crisis, etc). The night nurses were watching me on the camera we had in the psych room.

Ah, I do miss Tampa, one of the strip club capitals of the world (used to be the adult entertainment capital of the US, but the conservatives recently took over....). Every week I would see 2-3 strippers. *sigh*

I'm sure docB sees his share in Vegas....

Back in my volunteer firefighter days, had a carload of strippers hit a telephone pole. In Erie County, NY, bars stay open until 4am (NYC is the only other place), but the strip bars in Ontario are full nude - however, they close at 1am (maybe 2am now). Another note is that the drinking age in Ontario is 19. As such, American guys go north, but Canadians go south. There were 3 strippers in the car, and either one or two guys (I don't recall). Our patient was intermediate - ended up with a fractured pelvis. This woman, though, couldn't describe her pain, so she indicated on my ass (in my turnout gear) where it hurt. She spent some time in the TICU, then rehabbed in England, where her father lived.

When I was a PA in family medicine, I took care of an entire network of strippers and escorts. It was because I had taken really good care of one with GC and she was happy I had used some office samples of Zithro and gave her some free IM sample Rocephin. So she sent all her friends to see me over a couple of years. I was really surprised how intelligent and non-superificial mosty of them were.

I remember the stripper with the abscess in the wrong place, right next to the good stuff. After it was drained, she asked for not too much packing, because she had to work that night! Needless to say, I don't go to strip clubs

It is stories like this that make EM so much fun.

EM docs only get to see so much though. When I was a paramedic I was called to a strip club just before closing time. It was for an unconscious stripper in the dressing (or should I say undressed room) We hooked her up with some D50 with all of the other concerned strippers watching us and not getting dressed. That was a lot of T&A. Now that was so much fun.

My most memorable was a drunk, combative, high gal who apparently got in a fight with her "boyfriend" on the way home from work one morning and grabbed the steering wheel making them swerve at 80mph into the concrete highway divider. He was treated and streeted and she, after calming down, spent the morning whining and moaning about how she was supposed to start her new "respectable job" at Hooters that night and now would miss her first day of work...all in the eye of the beholder...

So while working as a tech in the Trauma Center (before med school), we get a MVC come in. Young attractive girl with piercings in some precarious locales showing on the x-rays. Of course everyone looks to me to not only know how to remove them, but to go ahead and do so. Needless to say, I earned a reputation for that knowledge.

Yeah, and it's so damn embarrassing when they recognize me:p .

Is that recognition in the ED or on their own turf? I don't know about the former, but I am pretty familiar with the latter. :D

Well, you know strippin' aint easy (or was it pimpin? I should probably go consult Jay-Z just to be sure)

Acc'd to Big Daddy Cain (I think... I could be mistaken), it's pimpin' that ain't easy... but it's so necessary.

When the chick is hanging upside down at a 8 feet off the ground on a semi-lubricated pole I find myself wondering how often they fall. How many people in wheelchairs used to be strippers?

My favorite part of the show is when each girl comes out and tries to seductively disinfect the brass pole.

Do you think they need a "pole boy" to do this for them?

I'm sure this was the exception rather than the rule, but I know one who put herself through a big-name East coast law school using her stripper earnings.

There's a book called "Ivy League Stripper" written be a girl who put herself through Brown stripping. One of my co-workers keeps bringing it up, since he went there.

In undergrad I worked as a bodyguard/driver for a woman putting herself through chiropractic school doing "private lingerie shows". She make more money than you would believe and she did not provide "full service" (i.e., she didn't do sexual things with her clients).

Now I just love the irony of her being a chiro. Prostituting her body led to prostituting her brain .

I'm an undergrad working as a paramedic....a couple years ago we got a call for a "stripper down" at one of the local gentlemen's clubs in our area. Evidently she misjudged her acrobatic abilities on the pole and fell head first on to the stage from about six feet up. So there she was lying on the stage in all her glory (nobody bothered to think of her modesty for some reason)... so my buddy and a couple first responders (every male cop in the county as well as an FD turnout fit for a major extrication showed up) actually get to go up on stage to take care of C-spine. Meanwhile my supervisor is standing on the floor in the patron's area next to the stage when an entertainer standing behind him asks, "...would you care for a dance?" So he turns around and politely explains that he would but this may not be the appropraite time, to which she responds, "Ummm.... I wasn't talking to you!"
Thats my only professional encounter with a gentlemen's club...or their employees.

The madam that was busted in D.C. recently supposedly had a lot of educated, bright women working for her, including a researcher at the NIH!

Recently took care of a stripper with a clay shoveler's fx. Doing one of those upside down hanging from the pole maneuvers. Lost the battle with gravity. Fell down, went boom.
