Just wanted to get some names and impressions of good community programs on the East Coast.

Also, is it worth trying to rotate at a few of these places or should I stick with academic institutions for my sub-i?

I'm going to make a big push for Orlando Regional. I did a Sub-I there and was blown away by the program. Some of the things I LOVED:

-brand new hospital at Winnie Palmer is the most posh thing I've ever seen. A county hospital with granite countertops, all private rooms, gorgeous decor, robes, whirlpool tubs, etc.

-the most amazing food ---ever. And the Ob residents get ALL their meals free, not just on call.

-Residents kicked butt. Great folks with easy going attitudes. Came from some good schools. 6 per class.

-Nightfloat with an extra PGY3 on "swing" shift to cover 12p-12a shift. This helps out a LOT when triage gets slammed.

-They're getting into doing lots of lap surgery since they added new lap-only faculty and two off-site rotations where that's essentially all you do.

-Orlando is actually a fun place to live. The touristy stuff is quartered off in an area of the town you never have to visit if you don't want to. They're the land of chain restaurants but also some very interesting independent places as well. Cost of living is reasonable for Florida prices (compared to Miami, Tampa, Jax, Gainesville).

-Faculty are def some of the mellowest I've met. Great teachers, great surgeons. They've got Dr carlan as program director, who's a mecca in his own right. Plus, a pretty fantastic Gyn-Onc on staff.

More questions, PM me.
