I am an Undergrad majoring in biology. I have a 3.4 culm and 3.3 in sciences and am planning on taking the MCAT and DAT in the next month. I have been considering both Dentistry and Medicine for the last four years now but cannot make heads or tails of it although I do know that I only want to be a doctor or dentist. I have volunteered in hospitals and talked with dentists but yet find it so hard to pick out of the two professions. I would really appreciate any advice you can provide. I basically want to know what it is really like and what kinds of things you like and also dislike about your profession. Also I have read threads where people have said that Dentists are blue collar workes, or miserable and things like that which really concern me. Again any advice will really help me out. Thanks for your time and comments.

Either way, do well on the DAT/MCAT. If you’re thinking about med school, have fun with that.

Man, I hope so. For me, it wouldn't be too much fun being both. I can't imagine you'd have much of a social life.

Miserable, wow. I'd hate to become a "blue collar workes" and still play more golf than anyone. Good luck with the decision.

you need to do the grunt work see with your own eyes what being a dentist involves..
don't go into ANYTHING that you are not sure of..
dentistry requires a rather large investment of your time, money and life.

btw,
the world needs mba's and phd's..
there is no shame if you decide that working in dirty mouths belonging to folks that dont consider you a "real doctor" is not for you.

It would be wise to decided what you would like to do before you spend time preparing for the DAT/MCAT. There is a great deal of information overlap, but each exam is different. Make up you mind what you would like to do. There is always Oral and Maxillofacial surgery which gives you the best of both worlds.
