Hi guys,
So I'm studying for the DAT, planning to take it at the end of this month. Other sections I was able to study and do fine so far, but I'm still struggling with the PAT section. Like I could not visualize the TFE or Keyhole at all. It's just a struggle in general for that section. I practiced and reviewed the solutions pretty much every day but not seen any progress yet. Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks!!!

for TFE, there is this program called AUTO CAD, or 3D projection of regular items, just google it. try to imagine your items into TFE projections.

Keyhole is just practice its like a pattern. Buy boot camp DAT (first 3 session is free) you will improve.

Bootcamp and Crack DAT PAT. I really liked Bootcamp PAT. It had some tough questions that closely resembled the difficulty of PAT questions on the real DAT.

Crack DAT PAT has a LOT of practice questions that covered the majority of the PAT material, but doesn't quite reach the difficulty of the actual test. It is also quite expensive...

If I had to choose one, I'd go with Bootcamp. If you have money, I'd try and get both

I used Crack the DAT PAT and it paid off. I scored an 18 on the first two tests and then worked my way up to scoring a 22. On the real DAT I ended up with a 24.

Thanks everyone. I'm constantly getting 13-14 score range so I'm highly freak out about it.
I just can't grasp it. 🙁

Don't fret about it too much, I was the same way. There's a learning curve because it's something we've never had to do before. But once you get used to it, it'll become very easy. Just need lots of practice 🙂

crack dat PAT has videos, no? I found them useful. Then again, I took the exam almost two years ago lol.

It really just takes time. Then all of a sudden, it clicks. Keep at it, redo those exams too.

this score range may mean you do not get the skills and the rules of PAT yet and before you get these skills, you jump in doing practice under timed condition.

1. learn the skills and rules, take as much as time as you need
2. try to work faster and faster
3. near test dates, practice them under timed condition.

The great thing about PAT is that you can translate it into real, tangible objects that might help you understand it. Just fold some paper, buy some of those blocks that teachers used for fractions in elementary school, and use a hole punch to recreate all the PAT exercises.

I can also vouch for Crack dat pat. Yes it is expensive but i think it's a good starting point. I raised my score from an 18 to a 23 on the real test. I just tried the BC pat and is definitely much harder than cdp. Definitely start with cdp then once you feel comfortable graduate to BC pat, although people have been saying the angles are easier on the BC? If someone wants to chime in on that.... I took my DAT 2012 and cdp prepared me pretty well that time around, but I don't know if they made the PAT section harder or not compared to 2012. I'm going to retake my DAT for the FOURTH time (sigh) and going to retake mid august. All or nothing. I know it's off topic but for the DAT destroyer GC and OC, I've been getting 30% right the first time around. Is it normal? Planning to go through missed destroyer problems 3x+.

There is a 99 cent app for most smart phones that is DAT-specific and allows you to practice the PAT. It isn't the most precise, but I learn well from repetition. I think that the app was worth at least 80 cents of the 99 I paid.
