I've been staring at my PS for weeks barely making any changes... I don't really like it as is, but I've just been having so much trouble writing recently. I want to submit my application tonight. Is it worth sending in an application that I'm not even happy with? :\

If you send in an application you arent happy with, youll spend the entire year worrying about it. Whats wrong with it? Figure out what you dont like about it and try to fix them. Have people look over it if you want. You shouldn't be spending weeks staring at it and not working to fix things

I don't think submitting today with a ps you're not happy about will make you very happy in the long run. I say set a deadline for yourself for when you want to turn in your app (it's still early despite what sdn says!), maybe a week from now, and then really dedicate yourself to figuring out what you don't like and fixing it.

What I tend to do when I have trouble writing is to just start over with a blank page and just write. Whatever that comes into your head, forget about what you wrote on the old ones. This usually allows me to come up with some new ideas or at least some new ways of connecting ideas.

Google "Write or Die" 🙂

Good luck!

+1

There is no point rushing it any more. Its kinda late for your application to be considered "early" now so just take your time. If you need someone to read it, PM me. I have to let you know that I am also an application this cycle but I have already submitted my primary and has been verified (check my post history).

As long as you submit your application before mid-July, you should be in roughly the same position as all those who submitted theirs in early June. A lot of secondaries don't come out for a while and it takes a few weeks for the schools to process the secondaries once submitted (so in the meantime your primary will be verified).

I'm in the same boat as you, I have yet to submit and don't LOVE my PS, but I just spend an hour staring at it every day and hopefully am able to write a sentence or two. I have my deadline set to July 13th.

Thank you everyone for the advice! I really wanted to get my app in early, but I just didn't feel ready, and now it's almost July :/ I just feel like my PS doesn't capture everything I want to say and the flow could be much better. But I've also heard from other people that it doesn't need to be perfect, and perhaps I should just move along with the application cycle, since I'll have to do a lot more writing for secondaries...

Think about what you wrote for your college essays. Maybe it wasn't "why medicine" per se, but you got it out and you were accepted. That counts for something.

Go for a walk. Or take a shower. Those are my favorite places to be inspired. Wherever it is for you, it's NOT starring at your essay. Your head is too loaded with emotions and that freezes you from writing.
