Just curious if anybody else out there is stuck in a class they no longer need. I am in a public speaking class that I no longer need for the schools I got into but here it is half way through the semester. Kind of a drag.

Yeah, I'm in Stats which I was taking for CSU and someone else. Don't need it for TAMU though and that's where I'm going. 🙄
I would have dropped it (even with a W) but it's one of my easiest courses, so I just couldn't justify it.
Unfortunately, the class I want most to drop, Physics II, is a prerequ (one of the last 2 I need...the other I'm in is Biochem II) and my the one I want second most to drop is Botany and it's required for me to graduate with my B.S.
And I really don't want to have gone through four years of work and NOT get the B.S. Even if it ISN'T necessary.

I have two I don't need now. The Chem II I don't mind but I hate hate hate my Stats class. I know it is useful, but it is soooooooo boring!

I don't have any I don't "NEED". All of my classes are needed either as prereq's or for my major (chemistry). So I am unfortunately stuck in Physical Chemistry II and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. Both are so....Blah: lots and lots of work and no fun whatsoever.

Physics II lab 🙁 I don't need it to graduate and I don't need it for vet school but I stuck with it thinking it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Now with a C- average, I'm wishing I could drop it big time!

I don't technically need Genetics for Penn...

but it's pretty easy so I'm not complaining (I've already learned most of it in Molecular Bio 😛)

I'm stuck in Public Speaking too!!! I hate it.....3 of the schools I applied to would not accept the class I had listed under public speaking b/c it didn't say "public speaking" in the course title. So they were like, take it in the spring or forfeit your application. Spent $300 only to get rejected by all three that made me take it in the first place. But it's almost over and it's an easy A so I guess there's always an upside to everything!!

SteelMagghia (and other TAMU people): don't forget that your acceptance is conditional upon your completing ALL courses this semester with a C or better...you aren't allowed to drop anything!

Hrmm, my letter specifically said my acceptance is conditional on making a C or better in Biochem and Physics only (my last two prerequisites).
The other classes I'm taking are just for my major. Not that I'd really drop them anyway. Like I said, the only course I COULD drop would be stats and it's too easy to justify dropping it. It wouldn't lighten my load at all. And if I made a C in any of my undergrad classes I might throw myself off a very short bridge.

I'm just curious as to where it says that I must make a C or better in all classes I'm signed up for. I'm confused now.

This thread is the story of my life. I'm taking 2 classes that aren't needed for the school I'll be going to (they're required for other schools I applied to and didn't get into) and wouldn't you know, they are my hardest ones. So frustrating!

4 more weeks!! 4 more weeks!!

I thought that all pre-reqs for vet school had to be finished in the fall semester when applying, and that you couldn't be finishing anything up in the spring? Maybe I'm just confused, but I thought it was a rule.

They have to be finished by the end of spring of the year to which you are applying. So all prereqs have to be finished by spring, and none can be taken in summer.

But I suppose if I were re-taking a class for a better grade, it wouldn't matter then because they would decide based on my GPA after the fall semester ended. Now I wish I'd have waited on speech or something, and re-taken something instead!

This depends on the school. UTK will let you finish pre-reqs the summer before starting vet school (still have to get the C).

Maybe OKSU is strict and requires them done by fall? I know I didn't get to thinking that was the deal from nowhere, SOMEONE told me that's how it was. And if that's the case, it stinks that my IS school is like that.

I just remember signing that piece of paper at the interview...and the girl was so adamant about dropped classes. But, you got the acceptance, and I would definitely take more stock in that! 🙂

It depends on the school. Some schools only let you leave one pre-req for the spring (PEI?). Others will let you finish over the summer and I'm sure some say you must finish them in the fall semester. So check on the schools you are applying for!

The time of completion of the pre-reqs depends by school. Some say that you must finish them all for spring, some allow you to take a course during the summer before the fall semester starts, other schools only allow you to take up to 2 pre-req during the spring semesters, so it all depends.

Man, that's two really tough policies for OKSU. No pre-reqs after the fall semester, and repeat grades are averaged and not replaced. Oh no, three, because they only take the best overall score from one GRE session, no recombinations. Bleh!

I got into OkSU and they told me I just had to pass my 2 pre-reqs that I'm taking this semester, they didn't say anything about having to have them done in the fall. Maybe it's different for IS (I'm OOS).

Maybe I'm mistaken. It wouldn't be a first. Well, I guess it no longer matters, a I'll have every pre-req known to man besides Calculus by this fall. I just have to worry about re-takes, and what would help the most.

I'd stay in statistics. We have our biostatistics/epidemiology class right now and if I hadn't taken a stat class in grad school (called "Statistical Methods for Research"), I would be pretty lost. Like I could plug the numbers in right, but I wouldn't really get why. The class we are in now is more applied, which is cool, but I'm a big on asking the "so what does p mean exactly? What does degrees of freedom mean?" types of questions. That's kind of glossed over more in this class versus my other stat class, where the components of the equations were explained a bit more. That being said, I am enjoying this class more than my previous stat class. 😀 Well, except that I missed 2.5 points on the last test for not remembering what street in London it was that Dr. John Snow discovered that cholera was coming from. 🙄

That was a question on an exam in the Pathogenic Micro class I took too, haha! Only I didn't miss it because we talked about it for soooo long. 😛

Assuming I'm lucky enough to get off the waitlist, I don't need 2nd semester O-chem for Mn. 😡

I'm taking comparative immunobiology this semester (which was a pre-req for a school I decided I wouldn't be going to). Let me just say that it is the worst/hardest class I have ever taken. The teacher hates me (just cuz... okay, I doze off in class every now and then- but he talks about NOTHING for an hour and a half and to make matters worse, he has a total lullaby bedtime-story voice). I wish I had dropped it but there's nothing I can do now. I do need it to complete the reqs for my major, but it's just frustrating because I could have taken a different easy class instead. You just have to try to look on the upside- thought public speaking won't really matter too much in vet school... it IS a good skill to have, and you'll have to use it in your future so keep your head up and just remember theres only a few weeks left till you're OUTTA THERE!
