Hey everyone,

So my school just sent out an email asking student to complete, amoung other forms, a brief biography to be sent to each preceptor site prior to my arrival:scared:. Im not sure what direction to take here, whether I should discuss my personal interests (hobbies/athletics/personality) or my previous experiences and qualifications. I imagine whoever recieves these is probably going to only spend so much time reading them before moving on with their life, but I'd still like to leave a good impression,

Prior to the first preceptor visit, we send each physician-preceptor a brief biography of his/her student. Please fill in the blanks and then write a short autobiography including any information you would like your preceptor to know about you, such as experience in a medical setting

Advice? What would you write?

Thanks!

Really, the main thing they care about is where you're from, where you went to school, possibly what specialt(-y/ies) you're interested in, and if you have any stand-out experiences (like, you're a former paramedic w/ 10 years experience or something). No one cares about your fantasy baseball hobby or anything else.

LOL, what a weird request - "biography". I would guess that the type of "bio" that you find on a doctors' website would be appropriate. A few paragraphs summarizing where you grew up, your past education, work and extracurricular activity. Write a paragraph about any specific medically-related interests you have ("I plan on going into surgery, " "pharmacology was my favorite class." ) And a paragraph description of your family (wife/kids) if you have one, maybe where you live now, and include your hobbies (including fantasy baseball, if you are in to that) . It seems like the purpose is to help the faculty get to know you a little before you arrive in the clinical setting.

Just write a short paragraph and include info about your background, clinical experiences, and professional interests. No biggie.

Talk about how you've been the fantasy football champ in your 6-team league for the past 5 years. If that doesn't get you honors immediately, nothing will.

Obviously I kid, but I don't think that putting non-medical hobbies (instruments/sports/video games/fantasy sports) is a bad thing to put on something like that. It may give your preceptor something else to talk about (depending on his interests).

This is what I thought, obviously they won't really care that much about how I spend my time outside their office, but can't imagine walking in without them knowing anything more than my resume.
