Student Debt

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't forget about those of us who are lucky enough to live in a state where IN-STATE tuition is $32K/year. Oh, the joys of the Ivy League. Although it's nice to know that money would be a factor either way, so I won't feel guilty choosing an OOS school! 😉

I hear ya! It's actually cheaper for me to go to school oos b/c I can establish residency and not live in an area with a high cost of living.

I know birdvet went overseas for vet school and is in significant debt. Maybe she'll chime in here and let us know what its like to be a practicing vet and have the loan payments hanging over your head. We can all speculate, but there is nothing like first hand experience.

Hmmm...well, I have about $190-200k in debt (it changes all the time with interest!). I have Stafford loans that have been consolidated, and many private loans that are not consolidated. I use 3 loan companies: Sallie Mae, Citi Bank, and American Education Services. So far I have been paying all the loans from Sallie Mae and Citi Bank. I am just about to start paying the loans in the AES. I have not had a problem so far....knock on wood. I have put most of the loans into the "lowest possible payment per month". Sallie Mae + Citi Bank loans combined - this past month I paid about $700. I just forked out $190 towards a single loan in the AES group...and there are 3 other loans in that group that I haven't started paying on yet (that starts in May).

I am a bit concerned...but think I should be able to pull it off. Remember, I did do an internship last year and paid hardly anything towards my loans at that time.
