Hello all,
I am a post virgin so bear with me. I am a second year student at a PT school in Pennslyvania. I currently have a 3.71 GPA in PT school. So now I have the self confidence to say I can get into medical school (I have also refined my learning and studying methods, I hate hindsight). I am finding out more and more that PT is monotonous, simple, and just not demanding enough for me. Furthermore, when we learn about pathophysiology and other aspects of client care I am usually more interested in the medical aspects, and drift off into REM sleep during the PT portions. While my PT GPA is good, I have been looking around this site and noticed that most people are of the opinion that Medical schools do not really care about graduate degrees, bummer. Wanted to ask around and see if I could get other input. Also, would I be better served to focus on DO schools as they enjoy OMM and DPTs enjoy manipulations and it would just be so lovely 🙂. Also, like I stated above, my undergrad education was taken without much seriousness, hope, hard-work or belief in myself. I'll list my grades below and feel free to berate me:
Bio 1 - B
Bio 2 - C+
Chem 1 - C
Chem 2 - B
Phys 1 - C
Phys 2 - B
Undergraduate Cummulative GPA was a 3.28
Science GPA was a lot lower at 2.65 if you include A&P, Kinesiology, and Organismic
I know now that I can perform better in these.
These are the grades that are relevant to Med school. So i was trying to decide if I should just retake all of the classes, or do a SMP. If I should retake all the classes should I do a Post bad? I was already planning on waiting a year to apply after I graduate, and possibly do some classes in my third year at night. Ideally I would do 2 classes at a time to show med schools that I can handle that which I can. I don't have too much worry about debt. I think total I am looking at 80,000 from grad and undergrad.
EC: I have been a EMT - B for 2 years now and work for an event company, I was also thinking about stepping up my volunteering time. In addition, I am doing research with my professor who has his PhD in neuroscience, on the correlation in clinical practice between vestibular disorders and concussions. Wondering if this would apply??
Any advice would be so appreciated.
