What exactly are student fees? How are they different from regular tuition? Do they account for books and stuff? Why do they vary so much from school to school?

Thanks!

What are the student fees at your undergrad institution?

At my undergrad school, all sporting events, plays, concerts, etc are free with our student ID. We also have free student health service, counseling service, and law advice. That's what the student fees pays for.

I'm just suprised that the fees vary so much for med schools. UCONN has a fee of over $4,000!

Does that fee include a laptop computer? WVU med school requires each student to buy a laptop from them, which adds to their fees by $2000. They also use the fees to charge once per year for copying fees for the year in order for the students to make copies when they need them.

You can almost bet that the fees DO NOT include the books.
