Hi everybody!
I'm from Europe and next year I'm moving to San Francisco with my husband. I already read all the information important for non US students, but I'm just having problems with the US college system.
I already have a master in biology and I already sent my transcripts to WES for credential evaluation.
My question is: can I just take specific courses (like the ones that are required for vet) in any college? What does "4 quarter units" mean?

Sorry for the questions, but our educational system is quite different and I was looking at different colleges, but there are too many informations and I really just need basic explanations 🙂

I hope you can help me out

Welcome to SDN and welcome to the US!

Can I ask where you are from? I just moved to the US 4 years ago. It is quite different than Europe, but I do like the educational system (at least post high school). Mainly because I actually have a chance at vet school here.

You can take the required courses for veterinary school at every 4-year University. I think that some vet schools also accept courses from community colleges, but you will have to check with the schools you are interested in. Some classes (nutrition for example) can also be taken online.

Hi PetPony,
thank you for your answer. I will try nutrition online 🙂

I'm from Switzerland 🙂 I hope I can organize everything so that I can start with the pre-vet courses as soon as I arrive to the US.

Do you speak German? :woot:

Do you already know where you want to take your prerequisites? It might be helpful to e-mail/call them before already while you're still in Switzerland to organize everything.

Yes I also speak german, but I come from the italian speaking part.

I don't know exactly where I will take the courses but I'm looking and I am going to wait till Davis writes back and tells me which courses I need to take. It is not easy to look for so many thinks from here 🙁

That's awesome. I grew up in Germany, so I speak German, too. :]

I totally understand what you mean. While my mom organized most of our move, I still tried to find out many things on my own. It is very different here and it takes some time to get used to things.

The vet schools are pretty busy right now with applications and interviews, so it may take a while for you to get an answer. If I can help with anything, just let me know. And everyone else will be more than happy to help, also, I bet.

Thank you PetPony for your help! 👍 🙂

I have a question about the pre-vet courses. Are the they a semester long?

Can you recommend colleges around the SF Bay Area? I'm searching, but I have the feeling I'm lost in a jungle of information and I need some recommendations 😳
