Hi all, so as of now I have one acceptance at Noorda which I am really happy about except for the fact that it is ridiculously expensive. I do not come from money and I don't have anyone to co-sign on a loan for me so right now I am working on building up my credit and paying of my CCs. I am also trying to get the HPSP scholarship but im not sure if I will qualify. Does anyone have insight on what it's like applying for private loans? Is it really bad? Is it feasible to get a loan without a co-signer? I am already 30 years old so reapplying next year kinda sucks but it might be the better option as opposed to digging myself in massive debt.

Is Noorda one of those new schools that don’t have access to federal loans yet?

Why don't you think you'll qualify for HPSP? Is it because of medical history? Try all branches to maximize your chances. I am doing the Air Force one, and there's a direct matrix if you meet the GPA and MCAT cutoffs. But it should be easier to get in if you already have an acceptance in hand. You could get started on MEPS and officer training earlier. You could also try other scholarships like NHSC or USPHS. The Reserves also gives a stipend via MDSSP. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but it won't pay off your tuition entirely.

And in regards to the other comment, yes, Noorda is a newer school that is private, for-profit. It has already graduated a class, but their application for federal loans is still in the works. So students will need to deal with private loans for now. Apparently some private lenders like Sallie Mae work closely with the school and offers nicer rates.
