When I interviewed at Vanderbilt, I remember that one of their selling points was the fact that they consistently rank near the top of list for student satisfaction as judged by exiting fourth year medical students by the AAMC. Does anyone know where I can view these rankings? What other schools rank in the top 10 or 20 for student satisfaction?

That website is seriously flawed.

No med students really know about the site. Consequently, no med students bother to fill out the form to report what it's like that their schools. These results are based on the feedback of very few students and should not be relied upon.

You'll be much better served to base your opinions of medical schools on your own experiences during interviews. That website is bogus, and I hope you don't use it to make an important decision.

Good luck,

I think that the student satisfaction ratings are actually derived from the AAMC's graduation questionnaire, as explained below verbatim from their website. However, I think that only the"All Schools Report"is accessible to the public. I guess the individual rankings for each school are only made privately available to the schools themselves. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

"The Medical School Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) is a national questionnaire administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). It has been administered annually since 1978 to US graduating medical students. In 1999, the GQ was converted from pencil and paper to a Web-based format in order to facilitate data collection and analysis. That year, more than 12,700 responses (over 80% response rate) were received. For the 2002 GQ, over 14,000 responses were received, yielding a 91% response rate.

The 2003 GQ will be available from January 2nd until July 1st. The questionnaire assesses more than 200 items covering a wide variety of topics. These include educational experiences, student support programs, and potential problems including harassment. The GQ also gathers information on student debt and career plans. Data is analyzed for each school, compared across schools and then reported to each participating school. There is an aggregated report created of all the 125 participating schools known as the "All Schools Report"."

I don't think the results of the AAMC graduation questionnaire are released directly to the general public.

On this website, the results for my institution are based on the input of 3 students. Would you rely on an n of 3 to make generalizations about a school?

Cheers,

No, but I've used things students have mentioned before and asked tour guides etc about them when on interviews.
