Several of the schools I interviewed at had patient simulation... dummies/mannequins that were operated by either instructors or other students (from what I understand, these are fairly common?). The current students I spoke with on interview days had positive things to say about the experience, but i haven't heard of Second Life before
I think it could be really useful running a code blue and practicing the protocol and what to do there... (the mannequins and stuff)... but having a read of the Second Life program, it just sounds like a bit of fun...
Really? I haven't heard of a decline in the number of patients allowing student activity at my school...
I've heard urban legends that my university has one of those mannequins, but I never used it as a student and much less as an intern. Too busy gaining experience practising on live human beings I guess. I've heard that practising on living people is starting to become a thing of the past now that a lot of patients won't even let med students in the same room with them, much less let them draw blood samples, explore them or do procedures.
That's what free clinics are for. Wish I was 100% joking on that.
