Study during research year?

Hey guys, I'm an AMD and I was wondering if I should study for the step1 during my research year or just take it before?? I was hitting in the 210-220 range on my nbmes and I feel like i can go higher but I dunno if its a good time to try and balance studying and research. would I go down?? thoughts?? thanks!

I would be very interested in hearing opinions on this matter as well. If I get accepted for a research fellowship I think I'd plan on studying for Step 1 before starting the research year. If I was getting 210-220 I would probably continue studying and take it ASAP once I get in my target range.

If you guys end up studying during research year, you could maybe do Phloston's long-term method since he studied during his research year.
