Hey, I am taking Calc 2 and Gen Chem 2 after Winter Break. I have approximately 3 weeks until class starts.

Has anyone studied over break for a continuation from a level one course? Do you find it helpful or should I just relax? If I were to study, it will be like leisure reading or something. Nothing like working out problems..

Unless you have forgotten all of your algebra, then don't worry about calc II.

As for gen chem II, it is a very important class for the MCAT. If you want to be anal about it, then go to the library and review the chapter on general chemistry for free in one of the Princeton review or Kaplan books. Shouldn't take more than a couple of days... I'm sure you will be fine.

Please don't even dare think about studying over a vacation again. There's plenty of time for that in med school!

I'm taking 2 classes over winter break session 😱

the only time i did work over winter break was when i had an english class that had 14 assigned novels for reading... so i read 9 of them over break... 2 of which were later dropped. anyway, i wouldn't do any sciences (or math or physics) work over the break though.

basically, relax and enjoy the break 🙂

Its break. Take a break. The point is to take a BREAK from work.

Enjoy it. Go skiing, watch some movies, catch up with friends...MUCH better than doing work.

Unless you are taking the Jan MCAT you should not be studying over winter break. seriously.

EDIT: *recognizes OP*

dude, you're on the fast track for a burnout at this rate, you will need to learn to relax at some point. see if UMich offers a course in it.

I disagree read a chapter of calcII and chemII a day. In three weeks you would have covered the whole semesters work load.

WARNING!! if you somehow manage to struggle during the semester after doing this you are going to feel like an ass.

i never understood reading for science classes, that gives problem sets (especially math) if you can do the problems your fine, what is the point of reading.

I must say that I am a dork for microbiology, however. After last winter semester we didn't cover some of the chapters that would be covered in the medical microbiology class that I took this fall. I read over those chapters during the summer. After my med micro class this fall we didn't cover the information that would be in my virology course this winter. So I'm reading those chapters. I only do it before bed and yes I do enjoy the stuff. (Yes I'm a dork and I read the stuff before bed). Isn't being a dork/nerd a prerequisite for med school anyway? 🙂

No, no studying. Nothing that applies to school or academia in any shape or form. No reading, writing, or critical thinking. Football bowl season starts in a few days and that's pretty much all I'll be doing. 🙂

Yes, I'll be studying for some soul robbing classes coming up next semester. I've got about 3 weeks left too. With the MCAT out of the way, my aim is to pull up my mangled GPA.

GO AHEAD, STUDY FOR GEN CHEM II OVER CHRISTMAS BREAK...b/c the second you open the book your gonna close it and not touch it again until the semester starts. 😛

LOL...

Thanks for the comments everyone. No, I am not going to full fledge study, just read over a few things. I am a chem major, so it shouldn't be a shock that I love this stuff...
