Study for the DAT Longterm

I am a current graduate student who graduated with a B.S. in Biology in May 2016.

I plan to take the DAT about a year from now, and I want to get a head start on studying for the DAT?

I plan to dedicate weekly time over the next year to studying. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to study effectively?

I studied from about July to January which is kinda longterm. Really, I mostly just studied bio because it was so broad and watched and reviewed Chad's videos and notes. I probably put in 1-3 hours per week since it was during the school year then studied non stop over winter break. Really, bio is the only thing worth studying for more than two months if anything, and even that might be over kill. OC, GC, QR, PAT, and reading can all easily be learned in 2 months. Plus, if you study a year, you'll forget so much of the information, have wasted a lot of time, and may get burned out. If you honestly feel like studying, I would recommend bio.

Over the course of a year, you will likely forget a lot. However, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself generally with the content that will be on the exam. You could also try to improve your reading speed by reading books or articles, which would help you on reading comprehension. You could also consider reading some prep books on general biology. While all the details won't stick with you, it may make it easier for you to memorize the information as your exam approaches if you've already seen it before. Finally, if there is a subject you know you really struggled with at school (i.e. organic chemistry), you could try to do some problems or readings about a particular subject so that you have a stronger basis going into your studies before the exam. I found that PAT practice and Reading Comprehension stayed with me for many years between my first DAT and Retake.

If you are looking for something to start studying way in advance - look at the PAT and RC sections.
