Hey yall! Sooo, I am a carribean US IMG and finished my basic sciences in December of 2017. I had some family issues so I took a few months off after school had finished to deal with them. My next battle is with Step 1 and I have 5 months to study for it. I was wondering how i should structure these next 5 months to pretty much learn everything from basic sciences again? A little background about me: Below average student with a couple of red flags(course failures) so I really need to do well on Step 1( 225+). After taking some time off from school after my basic sciences, I do not remember much from my preclinical years(or feels like that way). Was looking for the best strategy for me to get a 225+? I am planning on using UFAP + Sketchy + BnB but am not sure if these resources are enough for a weak student. Is 5 months enough time to get through all these if I am using this time to only study for step 1? Thanks so much yall!

If you were a below average school with red flags, most likely you won't do well in step 1. I could be wrong, but it's very hard to change that. 5 months can be a good enough time for you to get 225+, but again 225+ is close to average. Everyone is also studying, so you really have to stand out. My advise is that you take NBME a month before the exam and if you not hitting 220, postpone the exam. For Carribean IMG, step 1 is sooo important you won't get an interview to begin with a below 220 step 1 score at least in Internal Medicine. As a US AMG with no real significant red flags, my step 1 was btw 210 and 220 and I got 1 IM interview offer form my own school lol! Unless you do very well in step 2 ck which is not an easy task if you academically struggle. Sorry to discourage you but the reality is harsh and I've been through that situation. Good luck and keep up the hard work. Get the best step 1 score even if that means delaying your education for months if you are not hitting 220+ in your NBME.
