Hello SDNers, I wanted to get some opinions.

Given that the work load is so immense in first year D school, I have began reading the Netter's anatomy book as well as other resources on dental anatomy etc...

Is it a good idea to read ahead or am I better off getting all the partying and relaxation in while I still can?

What do you think? Thanks for your opinion. 🙂

yea, do yourself a favor and enjoy the time you have off. There will always be people who study ahead, and it gives them no advantage what so ever. You will regret not using the time to relax and do all the things you wont be able to do while in dental school. Trust me. 😉

you will need to get used to dealing with the large workload thrown at you all at once.

Lol, wow since you put it that way! I think I will take your advice lol

Party dude! .....just party, man! You can always grow those brain cells back once school starts...oh wait, I guess you can't...oh well, party anyway! 😎

wow, lol. Yeah, I'll definitely take your advice guys, thanks.

I'd recommend traveling! It's a good way to "refresh" yourself, it's going to be long but rewarding 4 years! Between undergrad and D1 is a fine time to travel...possibly the last time you have limited responsibilities for the rest of your life! I've been planning a trip since my freshman year of undergrad, it begins May 1st!

Lets hear more of what must be a grand trip.

Well I've pretty much been living at near poverty levels for the duration of my undergrad in order to save money for this, but:

Honolulu - NYC - April 5th
NYC - DC - April 6th
DC - London - May 1st
London - Spain - May 5th
Eurail across Europe ---> Istanbul
Istanbul - Cairo - June 13
Cairo - Delhi - June 23
Delhi - Bangkok - June 28
Bangkok - Hong Kong- July 8
------>Overland through China to Beijing
Beijing - Tokyo - July 21
Tokyo - Honolulu - August 2
Honolulu - Dental School - XXX

The total cost of airfare was $4600 (a lot for a kid who delivered pizzas and worked as a waiter), and I'll be staying w/ friends/fam/hostels to cut living expenses, If any SDNers happen to be in the same places as me at the same time, shoot me a PM, we can grab some lunch 🙂

damn that sounds like an awesome trip. have a blast man.

Thanks, it took a long time to plan the whole thing out. I'm kind of freaking out at the moment though, my dog tore her ACL and I lost like 3k fixing it, so it looks like I'll be doing some camping in the more expensive (Europe) locals :xf:.

Maka, that is a pretty extravagant trip! I admire you for having the courage to even plan such a trip. I would have to seriously step outside my comfort zone to do this. I would love to take this trip with you tho but I can not, I have to save money for school since I plan to pay out of pocket for the first year. I wish you luck however. Please come back and give us an update on how it works out.
