Im in my junior year and I am already ahead in credits by like 20 for what I need to graduate. I planned to take a lighter load in the spring so that I dont have an exuberant amount of credits when I graduate and so that I can study to take the DAT late summer. My question is would that look bad to a dental school that I took a lighter load?

The work load is important in terms of how they evaluate your application. However, in your case, you're only taking a lighter load for one semester/quarter, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Long story short, as long as you have a killer GPA and above average DAT scores you shouldn't concern yourself with minor things like workload. Obviously, if you have managed to pull off a 3.5+ GPA and you have 20+ scores on your DAT you have a strong academic background regardless of your workload.
