From searching around, it seems like most people tend to put in 2-3 months of dedicated studying towards the MCAT. I currently work a 9-5, so I likely won't be able to study in as dedicated a manner the months before the test, so I was hoping to study for a longer period of time. I'll also be taking pre-reqs (bio, ochem) during the months leading up to the exam.

Would it be fruitless to even try to study before taking orgo/bio? FWIW I'll have chem/physics done. I think I can at least start practicing CARS, but I figure the more I can study ahead of time, the better.

On a related note -- are MCAT prep books comprehensive of the *content* that will be on the exam? If so, would it be possible to self-study a bunch of this for MCAT prep?

I studied for 4 months while working a 9-5 job. That works just fine as long as you don't have many responsibilities outside of work.

Your plan to pre-study from MCAT books is not something I see any problem with, but it's probably not necessary.

Just be careful trying to spread out studying too much 6-12 months to an extent you forget the info you studied at the beginning or get worn out. Even with a 9-5 have a set structured plan and hours that you study for each week. Hold yourself accountable
