Hey there,

I'm Yonatan an aspiring Physiotherapist, without going into all of the boring details ive had a rough studying experience in school. However, ive learnt to compensate skipped classes with my ability to grasp concepts pretty fast with the use of Adderall.
Wondering if any Physio student here has ADHD and went through major difficulties during academy due to ADHD?
In addition, how satisified are you with your choice?

Thanks.

If you really think you have ADHD, why don't you consult a psychologist? It's pervasive, so don't feel bad, but I think you should seek medical help. I don't have ADHD, although I do get distracted sometimes (who doesn't?). At my school, attendance is mandatory so you wouldn't be able to skip. You really have to focus in graduate school. This means you need to be able to pay attention for two hours in class, and then study for a couple of hours on your own. If you don't think you can do that, don't apply until you correct this problem.

Without going into all the boring details, it seems that society has failed you to the extent that you have an academic drug addiction. I would personally recommend, that if you aspire to do anything, responsibly attempt to live and study without synthetic cocaine.

Yes, I do think ADHD is over-diagnosed and used as an excuse for parents not to parent.

Best of luck

WOW :wow: that was harsh........Comment should have been directed at people who take NoDoz to pull all nighters...

Ever walk in those shoes??? Frustrating and self demoralizing when you think and feel stupid and friends tease you. Special learners learn differently.......and yes society - schools - want cookie cutter classrooms that don't educate each person per their individual needs. (although the law says they are suppose to)

..I have ADHD/ADD, mentioned in other postings. Grad top 5%of my class in High School,,,,while completing 40 college credits as a jr / sr, lots of extra curricular stuff in school and communitiy....scholarships throughout under grad in Kin. w/ minimum accommodations, accepted to DPT program. Managing first term of classes. However..........I never missed a class since kinder unless I was throwing up w/ fever....(even got sent home becasue I was made to go to school expecting I'd feel better in an hr or so.)Every year I miss a couple assignments due to spacing it.......DUH. Have a very supportive family (mom taught special ed for 35 yrs-and fought since 1st grade to figure out why I couldn't spell....and had memory issues----directly related to attention issues.....can't remember something if you weren't paying attention. ADHD is pervasive......it doesn't happen over night.

Some people are chemicaly different......diet and vitamins can help, to a point. Others just over use highly caf. drinks ......caf. has a calming effect on those who are truely ADHD. Others needs scripts.

I wouldn't have been so successful w/o supportive parents, teachers who recognized my abilities, and my own desire to strive to do my best and never quit. The energy level I maintain allows me to be involved as much as I was. Now I spend it all on studying...........

OK jumping off soap box.

ISRAELI To orignal poster......NEVER let anyone tell you that you can't or shouldn't do something you have a passion for......but then you need to be going to class and don't abuse any substance-legal, scripts or otherwise. Make sure you have had a complete comprehensive educational/emotional/social evaluation (every 3 yrs have it updated)and USE your accommodations. They are not a crutch (unless you allow them to be)they level the playing field so you can work at your optimal level. So you can't -not be going to classes.
Use spell check and re-read your work........formal and otherwise.

Thanks for all the tips guys,

Surely i wont be missing any classes during my studies unless the unexpected occurs, youve been a great help. I will be studying in English which is not my mother tongue; hoping it wont pose a problem.

Unfortunately, existence without stimulants detriments from my academic and social potential. The fact i will be studying abroad must also be taken into account(adjusting etc..)

I have struggled with my ADHD since I was a child. For me, it wasn't that I was hyperactive, I just have an extremely hard time concentrating. It bothers me when people dismiss ADHD, claiming that people use it as a crutch or are just lazy. Imagine sitting in class and your mind literally CANNOT concentrate on one specific thing for more than a couple minutes. You are trying to listen to your professor but you are distracted by the girl in front of you twirling her hair, the lawnmower outside, the boy typing next to you, your itchy sweater, the fact that you are thirsty etc etc etc etc etc. For people with extreme ADHD, it is incredibly hard to filter out all of the stimuli in your environment in order to focus on one specific thing. Figuring out the right treatment, meds, etc. is difficult but can be achieved. ADHD doesn't mean that you are lazy or incompetent. Keep your head up and know that there are others out there who also struggle with this disorder. Don't let it hold you back!

Concetration was my main issue too.......oops there goes the air conditioner......I'd also pick at things.........darn that tag on my shirt is irritating...........wish they'd let me chew gum then I wouldn't have to pick at this edge of my paper..........Thanks for getting on the soap box with me. Took years to find the support at school....being a girl and all who didn't cause disruptions in class......and and the right medical treatment. Could have worked out differently as it does w/ many of us.
