you guys are veterans with this stuff, so

while studing for med school stuff during MS1 and MS2, if i wanted to study/look over board stuff, which books should i use. This could also complement my med school studies, so i'm trying to see if i can hit two birds with one stone here.

Also, knowing what you now know about studying for step 1 and stuff, what would you do differently to better prepare yourslf for it.

thx in advance

I would go back in time and punch myself in the eye for even considering studying for the boards prior to the summer after MS2. I would tell myself to work as hard as I can to learn MS2 material and enjoy what autonomy I have left.

If I could give you advice, it would be to go ahead and punch yourself in the eye now and save yourself the trouble of finding a time machine, getting it to work, etc. Good luck.

I rarely yell, but this is important:

THE BEST WAY TO BE PREPARED FOR THE BOARDS IS TO REALLY LEARN IT THE FIRST TIME THROUGH!

Don't worry about reading first aid - the purpose of first aid is to jog your memory for stuff you should know, not to learn it for the first time.

Get a path book to use with your course, cause there're a lot of path questions in Step 1. I personally used BRS Path, it's very dense, but it helped me with quite a lot of questions in my test. For my test, studying from First aid's path section alone didn't seem sufficient.

Microbio made ridiculously simple, High Yield Behavioral science, and a Pharm book (I used Pharm for Boards and Wards) will also be helpful. At my school, these subjects were taught in ways that made it hard to connect all the concepts. So a more organized, systematic approach to the subjects by the 3 books I mentioned helped me with regular class work as well.

this is good advice. in terms of "board" books, the only ones I used during my second year (i.e. before boards time) were clinical micro MRS and BRS phys/path. this approach worked very well for me.
