Okay I picked up a copy of Kaplan 45 (That I fully intend to return), and i've just noticed how there is an incredable amound of stupid advice throughout it.

  • Know the tutorial before test day - "You will save time on test day by knowing exactly how the test will work. Click through any tutorial pages and save time." Yeah good thing I clicked through the tutorial, that will just save me oodles of time on my VR section...
  • Use the mouse to your advantage - "If you are right-handed, practice using the mouse with your left hand for test day. This way, you'll increase speed by keeping the pencil in your right hand to write on your scratch paper. If you are left handed, use your right hand for the mouse."
Yeah this crap really qualifies as "Advanced prep for advanced students"

More to come I'm sure as I read through this. I'm at work and quite bored.

Kaplan 45 was one of the most useless books I've ever looked at for the MCAT. Some of its sections are straight rips from the later Kaplan FL's, so you're not even getting anything new if you're taking the class.

Yeah I thought that the book was worthless as well, seeing that I had seen some of the questions on their practice tests.

I too laughed at the switch hands thingy. Are people really saving that much time by using the other hand?

I am not sure what's wrong with the advice above. If you are trying to shoot for 45, you probably need every advantage you can get. When I was preparing for the SAT, I had to learn the most efficient way to fill out the bubbles. Probably didn't save much time on one bubble, but when you add hundred or so, the savings aren't bad.

if you're getting 15s on a section, you probably finished them early so saving more time by using a different mouse technique is pretty much worthless.

Damn, I bought Kaplan 45 because I thought it would be useful, but it's kind of annoying if they rip questions from the FLs. Haven't cracked it open yet. Oh well.

lol at hand thing. Fortunately, I borrowed 45 from library book so I didn't have to pay for it.😀

either every mcat book is checked out from my library or they just dont have the books. i highly doubt the latter case because they have other prep books but i was amazed not to find a SINGLE mcat book. haha. (totally off topic)

Well I am left handed but use a mouse with my right hand. Always have all my life. I must have made Kaplan proud when I took my MCAT. 😀

It does help if you want to write something without letting go of the mouse. But the amount of help is probably very small.
