So I was all scheduled and ready to take Step 2 today...I drive the 30 minutes to the testing site, only to have them tell me when I get there that "oh, no one called you? We cancelled all the testing today because we've got construction going on in the building, and they were supposed to be done yesterday, but aren't finished yet. Sorry. But we'll call you in a few days to reschedule." Arrggg!!! They act like this is all no big deal! That I can just reschedule a 9 hour exam that I"ve been studying hard core for 2 weeks for, that I took the month of January off for, that I wanted more than anything to just have behind me! So now the soonest (and only) time I can take it is 3 weeks from now...which just leaves all that time for everything to seep out of my brain never to be found again. I'm not worried about being able to pass it, mostly I'm just ticked off because I really felt ready for it, was all psyched up and just wanted to get it over with. Now my rotations start back up next week and I'll be in the middle of one when I have to take it. They could have at least had the decency to call me yesterday to let me know and at least ACT like they were truly sorry about the whole thing.

Sorry, just needed to vent a little! 😡

And vent you should. Perhaps you should stick THEM with a $150 re-scheduling fee...

Good Luck!!!

that blows. no 2 ways about it. can they help you reschedule at another testing site that's also close to you? If no appts are currently available at those other sites, you ought to get priority for the waiting list. This definitely deserves phone calls to Prometric and NBME.
good luck and sorry this happened to ya.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The (almost) exact same thing happened to me, and it's infuriating because it's not like you can just pick another date next month and walk in and take it without studying all over again. I got lucky--I called Prometric and basically asked/told them (in a very nice way, even though I was really mad) that I had to take the test the next day, and that I had no other option. Somehow I ended up with a nice person on the phone who booked me at another testing center (in the same city) for the next day, despite the fact that there supposedly weren't any openings for a month, and also despite the fact that Prometric had told me that I wouldn't even be able to try and reschedule for 48 hours. So it might be worth a try for you, because re-studying would not be fun. Good luck. I don't know how Prometric gets away with this stuff.

it might be worth it to find another testing center you can fly to even --that would let you take the test in the next few days rather than 3 weeks.

good luck
