I'm trying to do the University of Kentucky secondary application, and good god, there are some stupid questions. One asks you to describe your experiences with small group learning, one asks what your experience with computers is ... and the absolute worst is this:

3. How would you describe your ability to use unscheduled time during the day for learning?

What the heck?! I mean, do they really think we're going to say, "yeah, I hate small groups, I don't know anything about computers, and I have terrible study habits"?! I feel so freakin' pretentious writing this mini essay saying, "I have excellent study habits and I appreciate unscheduled time because it allows me to prepare better for my classes" -- but I don't see what else to do....

Anyone else get any really dumb -- not difficult, but stupid -- secondary questions?

UK's program has less time in class... so, more time learning on your own. I'm sure they are hoping to find out which applicants fit with that, and which should go somewhere with a more traditional curriculum... although, I agree, who is going to tell them they DONT work well without a rigid schedule.

When I answered it I tried to give some concrete examples... like MCAT prep without kaplan while in school and working, also any examples of previous classes/curriculums where you were working without an imposed schedule.

Tell them whatever you think will convince them that you can manage your time effectively when they let you out at noon.

First post!

I would write stories demonstrating an example of your time in a successful small group and a good example of your use of time.

As for the computer one, you could just mention your time spent on SDN. At least you might get a laugh.
