How important is doing a sub-I in peds? I'm going to definitely do a peds residency, but was unable to schedule a sub-I before the interview period next year and can't do it until later (after December). I will be doing 3 months of peds electives (ID, oncology, pulmonary) before/during interview time as of right now.

Will not having a sub-I before interviews (or not at all) hurt my chances? I have excellent letters of rec and 240 step 1 score, no research.

thanks for your time 🙂

It won't hurt at all with that application, providing your Dean's letter also supports you as a strong applicant. If you were a borderline candidate I would think you would need a sub-I letter of rec to help your chances. I did my subI in september but already had my three LOR's secured. So I didnt have a LOR from my subI attending nor was my subI grade on my transcript. No one ever asked about it at all. Best of luck!
