What is the importance of these core rotations and why does some schools like NSU not have them as a requirement? Is that because you end up getting the same education during the 3rd year rotations?

I thought I talked to you about this? Not everyone would need to do a sub-I. It's really just a rotation designated for those students wanting an audition rotation at a potential residency program so you have more responsibility. If you are not interested in a surgical specialty then you wouldn't care about being noticed and having extra responsibility on that rotation.

If the school you go to doesn't have a sub-I rotation designated then you as the student just need to make it clear when you go on an away rotation and want to be considered for their residency you make it known to the director you would like to be treated like a sub-I. Don't make it harder than it is.

Get into medical school first.

sorry, I feel stupid for asking, then why does a school make you do both sub-intern-med and sub intern-surg and still give you a ton of elective options? why not just give all electives and let the students decides whether some of them should be sub-I med or surg?

Zoner, I would highly recommend finding a DO resident/attending (preferably an NSU alumni) living in your area who you can sit down and discuss this stuff with face-to-face. In my case, the DO who wrote my recommendation letter got lunch with me the other day and we briefly went over stuff like this. I realize this isn't possible for everyone, yet I feel like this stuff is better described with words than text.

Because many students go into medical school having kind of an idea about what they want but many do not. It's just designed to give everyone a variety of what's possible.

.
I talked to zoner for an hour on the phone. He is obsessing over nothing.

Ah. Thanks for that. I think the way the curriculum is structured says a lot about the school's philosophy

I'm pretty sure most schools have required Sub-Is in IM/Surg for M4s.

You say sorry but it seems like every other day you make a thread in pre osteo and apologize for the same thing. Is this gonna continue into med school on this forum as well??

Urrr. Yep as long as the mods and people who likes to HELP and clear up my misconception don't mind. I frankly don't care less whether you get annoyed or not. My apologies were for those who felt the need to respond and take their precious time to type and not for the kind of you that just reads everything to waste time. 🙂

Besides I could have PMed residents and older med students but these info don't really have to be known privately.

One more thing. There is always the ignore function and you can always choose not to read my post like I do with many posters on SDN.
