Sub par Dental acceptance

So I know a person who got into dental school. This person's stats:
(approximately)
2.8 Overall gpa
2.5 Science gpa
16 DAT

This person also did nothing to get into dental school.. no extracurricular, no community service, no nothing! How this person got in was because their mom is a dentist and her friend from dental school who she graduated with just so happens to be apart of the admissions committee or some sort at dental school X. Does anyone else think this is unfair to the profession??

But dont worry too much, as dental school classes as small, and everyone knows who is pulling their weight and who isnt; who is going to be good clinicians and who isnt; who has excellent communication skills with patients and who doesnt; ect.

Dont worry yourself with trying to call out the unmotivated individual. Dental school with give the unmotivated multiple opportunities to call out themselves.

If the system doesn't weed out the slackers pre-adcom the system will weed out the slackers post-adcom. Maybe that slacker will graduate first in his class though? You never know.

It's something that we must accept and learn to deal with otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy. We should still try to make things as fair as possible, but completely "fair" is an ideal that will never be reached.

I wouldnt worry about someone else, especially a african american dentists daughter who has two children at the age of 21, and had 4 acceptances (choosing on columbia). doesnt sound like its any of your business (in my opinion 😀 )

Thanks for all the great responses. Yes I agree lifes unfair. I just cant get help but feel bad for the person they bumped who gave an honest try at getting into dental school the traditional way.
As for which school, its one of the more expensive ones.

I understand your frustration that a more "qualified" candidate did not get accepted instead (especially if that more qualified candidate is you). And yes, life's unfair. But from my experience, scores do not tell the whole story or sum up a person.

I saw her comment saying "looking forward to it" and was like lol ok. Then she got accepted. UT used to let a "diversified" group of people in. Now there is a new dean of admissions and he is a 'by the numbers' kind of guy with a lot stricter criteria of who gets interviews.

Heh, you should see the medical school affirmative action thread. If you put African-American you automatically get around an equivalent boost of +.5 GPA and +8 on your MCAT
