Quick Question: How does submitting 6/5 compared to 6/7 affect my odds? The dilemma was put forth because a former ADCOM member is looking over my work/activities and PS, but said he won't be able to get any suggestions back until a couple of days. Should I just submit without his suggestions or should I wait?

i don't think it'll matter. as long as you're verified by 6/29, you'll be indistinguishable from people who submitted 6/5 vs. people who submitted 6/7.

I was curious about this as well. I'm guessing that with how the release dates have been changed this year, that it is a bit less advantageous to apply super early.

According to last year's verification-curve graph that I've seen around this website, I'd estimate that June 5th through June 20th will all be verified by June 29th. They would have the same consideration in that respect. Do yourself a favor and try to make your application as good as possible instead of focusing on submitting by the first day.

I would say that as long as you're complete I August you have nothing to worry about. After that (IMO) you should begin to worry about getting things in quickly.

(sent from my phone - please forgive typos and brevity)

Well you might as well wait until next year to apply now.🙄

Could you provide a link to this graph? I'm interested in seeing it.

What are you thinking?? Turn it in right now! Didn't you know that your odds of getting into medical school go down by 20% a day after June 1st? By 6/7 you're going to be at -120%

man i haven't even started my PS lol. i see such little value in med school essays, it's ridiculous. they are only meaningful if you write super good ones or super bad ones, and i know mine will just be average.

And your expertise on the subject comes from where exactly? Whatever PS he could write it 4 months he/she could write in 4 days if he/she really had to.

He's probably not behind "timeline" wise if he's intending to just write a mediocre PS in a day or two, it's just a rather weak minded way of thinking of things.

yikes! I'm certainly no expert, on here the general consensus seems to be that a typical person needs ~6 weeks to write one. it's not an easy task.

people on here are so unbelievably touchy! jesus!

I was just wondering when the first batch of verified applications are sent out? Do they go out once they're verified or on a weekly basis? Just curious. I was going to send it this weekend but seeing threads like this...worries me and makes me feel like I'm late... Haha

verified apps will first be sent out 6/29. after that, as they are verified. i'm pretty sure there is a lot of sarcasm in this thread... don't worry. you're fine.

Aren't early decision apps sent out before that date though? Because I've heard people getting secondaries from EDP as early as mid-June.

no idea. all i know is 6/29 is the "data submission" from AMCAS. if you're applying early decision at a school you should consult that particular school for this kind of info.

do you mind posting a link? sorry to ask, but i can't find it on the amcas website.

I completely agree. My non-science professor is ...not responding to my reminder emails. I went to drop off a gift for him in his mailbox this morning to try to....speed up the process.

But my other two organic chemistry professors have been great. It sucks thought that I don't have a Bio professor since I'm a Bio major but I have none that I feel like could write me a strong letter of recommendation. That...is kinda becoming an issue for me now if you saw my previous thread about needing a professor from my MAJOR's School (School of Biological Science..). And my research professor said she couldn't write it for me until July 2 after her NIH grants are due... which I understand BUT she doesn't qualify for professor from my school...she's from the School of Medicine.....Out of the whole application process, I feel like asking for letters was by far the most stressful.

You're not alone:laugh:. I haven't done nearly anything PS related yet, though I don't have a job or classes right now so I have loads of free time to knock it out quickly. It seems a lot of people on SDN slave over their essays for months (which isn't a bad thing), but I don't doubt that a solid PS can be written in a week or two. The biggest problem is getting people to quickly read/edit it for you, which sometimes takes a while.

Actually, my pre-health committee person just sent out an email today suggesting that people wait a day or two before submitting their apps online. Here is the email:

"For those of you who are ready to submit AMCAS now -- AMCAS submissions opens tomorrow Tuesday June, but I recommend waiting a few days before submitting the application to make sure that their server handles the submission process smoothly. AMCAS will start to send verified applications to medical schools on June 29."

I thought that this was good advice as you never know if there will be a server error or something. Especially since two days will make zero difference, I will not be submitting on June 5th.

Best,
C

Not touchy. I just think people posting information without the disclaimer that they could be, or in this case, are wrong is a problem in this world and especially on this forum.

And the bolded is absolutely absurd.

Someone else in this thread mentioned that for the vast majority of applicants, the PS will not be a +/- at all if is is anywhere near average. And the thing is, what one adcom thinks is a great PS, another will think it is run of the mill. And another will think it's crap. My guess is that less than 1% of PSs that are out there are considered universally "great". So the best thing is to make sure application is submitted sometime in June, preferably first 3 weeks, and having a PS that has no grammar issues, is well written, and avoids pissing people off.

Dude it wont matter. Wait for the suggestions. Theyll likely improve it and give you a better shot at getting accepted

okay. will it make you stop responding to me if I just say "you're right".

but I should give the disclaimer that I could be wrong about you being right

no we are not and don't misuse the name of the lord

It won't matter. I really should have waited a little longer for mine, so that I could have gotten my spring grades on my application (they were better than the fall grades). Nothing happened until early July for me (note - this was in 2005).

You made 2 ****ty posts. I responded them to to try and make clear A) how ****ty your posts were and B) relevant information that other people might want to hear, since this is an on topic discussion about submission timelines and personal statements.

Wow, you are annoying.

This isn't going to have any effect on whether you're accepted, waitlisted or rejected. Submitting any time in early- to mid-June will allow you to be complete at schools by early August (provided you're timely with the secondaries).

I actually think it's better to wait a few days before submitting your primary application. This way, you can give yourself the time to check your application for errors you may have missed. Who knows, maybe you'll also think of a better way to write about an experience during this time. When you submit, you won't be able to make any more changes to your essays. It would be a shame imo if you ended up leaving something out (or leaving an error in) just because you rushed to submit at the earliest possible date.

Damn. An entire 48 hours? Jesus. That sounds to me like you'll be on a Caribbean Island pretty soon. 🙄
