My application is complete, besides August 2004 MCAT scores. Would it be to my advantage to submit today? or wait until I get the scores...

From the looks if it, it only takes a few days to process...what do people think/suggest at this point..

Thanks! 🙂

A few days? HAAAAHAAAA. It will more than likely take you a few months to get your ACCOMAS verified. I would send everything out tomrw morning. In fact, it doesn't matter that they don't have an AUG MCAT from you yet. You would still likely get secondaries from schools just based on GPA alone. Go for it now.

I'm thinking about submitting it tonight too, or maybe tomorrow, but definitely by monday.

I seriously don't believe it takes a few months. They said 4-6 weeks, but from reading some threads on here, I'm guessing more like 2 weeks. That's not that bad.

A few months is definitely on the long side if you want to make an estimate. I submitted mine on Labor Day (Sep. 6) and have already gotten one notice to begin my secondary application. But, of course, the sooner the better is definitely the way to go.

How can you get secondaries without MCAT scores, your application is NOT complete until you have the scores in there, what you are saying makes no sense. I have read other things on this postboard that states people say ACOMAS processes the application in 3 days, and it usually takes only 2 weeks for schools to recieve the application..
Any other comments or suggestions?
thanks

It depends on whether you've already had schools send your transcript along. If so then AACOMAS will take about a week to find them, associate them with your application and perhaps another week to verify and send out to schools. At least that's how it was with my application. BUT if you haven't requested transcripts from schools yet, you have to add the time it takes your school to process transcript requests... which is usually an extra week.

Having taken the MCAT is a requirement for applying to schools. If August if your first time taking the test, AACOMAS knows this and will process your application once everything else is in...

what do you mean once everything else is in...
so I'm taking from what your saying that indeed, they are going to wait to send things out until everything is there.

well yes, they have to have transcripts (everything else other than MCAT score) in order to verify all your grades. but no they should not be waiting for the August release date.

RedRidingHood, to answer your questions and clarify:
AACOMAS begins processing (verifying) your primary application as soon as they recieve official transcripts from schools. Then they send your primary app out to the schools you have designated. The schools then often choose to review your application after they have recieved your MCAT scores, around Oct. 14th. I think that many of them send you secondary applications before recieving your MCAT scores, (you should complete the secondaries as soon as possible)-but schools will not review your app or make an interview decision until they recieve MCAT scores.

It is not too late, but do not wait till you recieve your scores to send your app in, this will only hurt you. If you haven't done so already, request official transcripts to be send to AACOMAS. It does take several weeks on average after they have recieved your transcripts to verify your app, then a week to two weeks for schools to send out secondaries after that. Good luck :luck:

I was going to wait until my August 2004 scores came in but the physicians I shadowed said to go ahead and submit. So I did. I completed my primary online applications August 19th. They were officially submitted to the designated schools on Sept 6th. I received my first secondary Sept 14th and the rest followed the same day or within the same week. I applied to VCOM, WVSOM, PCOM, LECOM. West Virginia did not send a secondary. They only sent a postcard stating they received my app and that they are waiting on my mcat scores. The secondary apps I was invited to complete are already in the mail. Yes, submit your primary. I'm sure you will receive secondarys soon after the colleges receive your app. Good luck.

some schools send secondaries to everyone that applies and some just send them to applicants that made it through their screening process. so I would send the primary in so you can at least get the non-screening schools secondary. just my .02!!!

Just remember that there are alot of people waiting on those Aug. scores. This means 100's of apps being sent to AACOMAS on this date. It would be advantageous to get your stuff in soon so you are ahead of this influx, even if it is just transcripts and primary.

I would definately submit asap, as in a month or more ago...the earlier the better regardless of your MCAT score being there.
