I know people that are submitting their amcas application before they take the mcat in order to apply early. Although this is allowed, do they still receive secondary applications and interviews early? 😕

I thought you can't receive secondaries until your scores are received

I believe you still receive secondaries from certain schools. However, they will be aware that you are scheduled for the August MCAT and I am unsure how much of your application will be looked at until those scores are in.

Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to submit those asap, that way those scores are the only thing that they will be waiting for.

If you were applying for a nice job, would you submit your resume without including your college degree? Probably not. In fact, you would probably wait until you graduated college and could include your college degree on your resume. I would imagine the same logic would follow for something like the MCAT, which is a *REQUIREMENT* to even be considered.

You will not get interview invites until scores come out (except under very rare sircumstances), but you will get most secondaries. Therefore, you should submit amcas early. Secondaries take a while. You don't want START to wait until for them in October.

Good logic, but baaaaaad advice.

OP- Send in your application without MCATs, checking the box indicating that you'll be taking the August. Here's what will happen:

1. Some schools will not even review your application. They will let your primary sit until your scores come back in October. They will then decide whether or not to send you a secondary

2. Some schools do NOT screen and will send you your secondary. When you complete it and send it in with your LOR, they will pull your file and await your scores in October. They will THEN review your file and determine whether or not to interview.

You'll find more schools will follow scenario 2 than 1. Some people will tell you to wait for your scores to come out first, but you'll be shooting yourself in the foot for absolutely no reason. Beware. Apply early. It helps.

Submit your AMCAS application ASAP! Don't wait like I did to submit AMCAS when you get your August scores (about Oct. 14). If you submit AMCAS right away, you will get quite a few secondaries despite not having your MCAT scores, and you really want to get those secondaries in.

Check the admission requirements of the schools that you applied to. If they state that the latest MCAT must be taken by August prior to the year of matriculation, then it should be okay to submit your AAMCAS application. The worst that could happen is that your application may be placed in the "for review" file until your MCAT scores are available. As a previous poster mentioned, some schools will automatically send in secondaries without reviewing your file.

I don't know how that would work. I do think that that sort of endeavor would require nerves or steel, and balls. Big swingin brass ones!

To me it kind of seems like putting the cart before the horse. If you smoke the MCAT, it's a good thing. If you bomb the MCAT, it's a bad thing. Since your whole application hinges upon how you did on the MCAT, I would think the smart thing to do is work on your AMCAS until it's perfect, and then wait and submit your scores at midnight on June 22nd (or whenever MCAT scores come in). That's what I'm going to do.

As I'm taking the August, I'm going to submit as soon as I can. I'm kinda worried about how I do in August, but I guess it's better than waiting until October. Though, I'm worried about the money spent. If I don't get a good MCAT score, what's the point?
