Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before:

I will be applying to MD schools in the 2013-14 application cycle. Unfortunately, my science GPA is currently a ~3.25 and projected to be a 3.35 in May after spring semester. My cGPA is a 3.4.

I know some people here would discourage me from applying next cycle at all. However, I have spent a year getting straight A's and A-'s in upper level science classes (even got an A in biochemistry) while working full time in a clinic. I have an MCAT score of 36, and strong EC's (or so I think). I feel pretty confident going into the application cycle with my below average GPA. However, if I take summer school classes I could have a 3.4 science GPA. Would it be worth it to delay my app until Aug. 5 (when summer school ends), if I could apply with a 3.4 sGPA rather than a 3.35 sGPA? I would already have my LORs and institutional letter of endorsement complete and sent, as well as my MCAT scores. As I understand it, you cannot change your GPA on AAMCAS once you've been verified, you can only update individual schools with your grades. Bringing up my 3.35 science GPA to a 3.41 science gpa seems significant enough to me...what say you?

Thank you.

I have a graph and a table for you to consider

Personally, I would forget about the summer grades and submit in June, but that's just me.

Also, I would be more interested in how much you cGPA changes instead of the sGPA for the sake of this convo.

sorry, but I thought this might have been the wrong forum.

Can you tell us your GPA per year? You don't even have to give us an exact number, maybe ranges if you would feel more comfortable doing that.

If you scored very low freshman year but improved your GPA each year then I wouldn't worry as much. You GPA is low, but your MCAT score is awesome. I think you could get in. And personally, I would submit it without the August grades. I would save that for an update and be in the first batch of applications sent out.

I have been improving my GPA each year. My GPA started out pretty good freshman year, then dipped after a death in my immediate family during third year, and then started rising again about 2 years ago. Should be ending this year with straight A's.
