How would a place that had a fellowship in a particular subspecialty avoid having subspecialty signout? You have to show a fellow a certain amount of cases to be accredited... I don't see how this gets accomplished without concentrating them into a subspecialty signout.

i mean general surgical. my place does not have a subspecialty signout. i know a number of programs have fellowship program without subspecialty sign out.

Except for the boarded ones (peds, derm, neuro, cyto, heme) no AP fellowships are accredited. You could call a something a gi fellowship whether you spent 3 months or 6 months or 12 months doing GI.

Actually, to be pedantic, ACGME accreditation is distinct from whether a fellowship is boarded. Non-boarded fellowships can be ACGME accredited or otherwise, depending on whether they meet certain criteria.

Nothing wrong with being pedantic. Correcting bad information is appreciated.

Most big programs have some sort of subspecialty signout.
