hey guys,

For you guys that have taken step 1, were questions on substance abuse fairly straightforward? i can't remember the tiny details in this topic for the life of me so was wondering how tough the questions were. Was it more like they give you a vignette and ask you what the pt is intoxicated with? or what drug u treat the intoxication or withdrawal sx with? also, should we try and learn every drug intoxication and withdrawal symptom from first aid or the bigger picture, like that LSD intoxication pts will have flashbacks and visual hallucinations? 🙁

very straight forward, key signs and symptoms.

i think they understand we are med students and not doctors. I took a look at my dad's board exam book and holy smokes it is hard as hell. They had some questions in there "What is NOT the symptom". I'm glad I'm not taking that test...

the only question on substance abuse on my exam asked , "are you drunk right now?"

I had a few ... not hard if you know it. If you dont know it - good luck.

Mine was more mechanism-heavy. I had to know the mechanism of the drug they were on and the mechanism of their "antidote" or drug used to treat the OD or withdrawal.
