I am so confused by this process. Have really good stats and pretty good EC. I have received 5 II so far (2 MD, 3DO), completed 2 already. Was accepted to DO school within a week of interview. Interviewed MD school EXTREMELY early (in August). Was contacted within 5 days of submitting secondary. Was flat out rejected by MD school (IS). Not exactly sure what went wrong. Felt good after interview and didn't feel like I tanked it. Wondering if it is something in my app and they didn't pre-screen app before they sent II (due to my GPA and MCAT)? Haven't heard from my other IS MD schools and submitted early August (kinda concerned about that). One of my interviews coming up is MD, OOS. Such confusion!! Why some and not others....ugh! Will call to find out what happened with MD school just so I know so I can improve whatever needs to be improved upon, but very frustrating. The application process is BRUTAL and quite confusing!

You're preaching to the choir! This process will NEVER make sense.
I've heard that post-interview they look at your entire application again. So... I guess technically you can nail the interview but still be rejected?
Applicants don't go into the interview with equal standing. The rest of your application still matters. They also can't accept everyone post-interview, so it doesn't just matter how good you are, but how good you are relative to other people (in terms of the nebulous "whole package"). I agree that it's not as transparent as applicants would like, but that's life.
Congratulations on your acceptance!! It may be that the other school wanted to give you a shot despite some concerns about your app, and your interview was fine but not stellar enough to push you over the edge. It's possible that they loved your app but hated your interview- but that's less likely since you've had post-interview success. Maybe they courtesy interview everyone from your undergrad or area, and never intended to accept you. I wouldn't worry too much about it since you are going to be a doctor.
Since you got accepted into DO and not MD, I'll assume you interviewed about equal at all schools - it's probably your MCAT/GPA was low for MD and competitive for DO. They kind of pre-screen but you are still compared to other students. Some schools give you a score for interview and then combine it with the rest of your application - other school does a "wholistic" view - but in their mind, it works pretty similar to a total score

Thanks. I don't think it was my GPA/MCAT as both are competitively pretty high (3.8/518) so must be other aspects of my app or something from interview. Hope to get some insight so I can improve, especially if it was my interview.Since you got accepted into DO and not MD, I'll assume you interviewed about equal at all schools - it's probably your MCAT/GPA was low for MD and competitive for DO. I'm just as confused as you are. I interviewed at a school that I had higher stats compared to their class average. I also was invited on the first day invitations were sent out. Flat out rejected on October 15, not even waitlisted. Med school really is a crap shoot
Yep...same with me. The entire process is humbling, heartbreaking, stressful and a real shot to your self-esteem! I'm pretty happy with the acceptance I did get and hoping for success on my upcoming interviews. Also hoping I hear from more MD schools soon! Wishing you the best!I'm just as confused as you are. Welcome to medicine!!
How does one fix this if this is the case? I don't think I personally have this problem but can't rule it out either.Might you have come off as arrogant? Or as having poor social skills?
I hope not. Would think if that was the case my other interview would have created a similar vibe and I got accepted there. Willing to improve upon whatever is was before my upcoming interviews if I find out the interview was the issue.Might you have come off as arrogant? Or as having poor social skills?
I personally didn't think I came off as arrogant. This school was my top choice OOS, so I stressed it during the interview. I also thought this was my best interview so far, but apparently not

I'd ask someone you respect who is NOT a friend and tell them in advance that the question you are about to ask is a hard one and that you'd appreciate a no-bull**** answer, not something polite. Then really listen. A really quick flat-out rejection probably does mean something rubbed someone the wrong way. Finding out what would be good.
Thanks. Good idea. I agree, something went wrong somewhere! Just confusing because rejected flat out one place and accepted at another when interviews were within 2 weeks of each other. I have 2 weeks until next interview so hoping to get some practice in, work on whatever skills I need to work on and praying for a positive outcome!!I'd ask someone you respect who is NOT a friend and tell them in advance that the question you are about to ask is a hard one and that you'd appreciate a no-bull**** answer, not something polite. Sometimes the same remark is taken one way by one person and exactly the opposite way by another. Confidence vs. Arrogance, Humility vs. Phony, Down-to-earth vs. Lack of Class. You need to be who you are, so don't obsess over it, but maybe you can mine something useful --
