Opinions on Suffolk? I see there are some pretty old posts about the program, but I was just wondering if anyone has attended and has any thoughts to share/knows about the competitiveness/the culture...

During one of my interview weekends, an individual who was from the Boston area mentioned that Suffolk had little, if any, funding. I'm not sure how accurate that statement was, or if it was only applicable to the current application cycle, but it's definitely something you should look into if you're interested in applying...

Actually, every student at Suffolk starts with a 50% tuition waiver. Then there are other fellowships and assistantships available that offer increased tuition remission and/or a stipend. Some are more competitive than others.

I am currently a first year student at Suffolk and yeah, these are all true. The funding IS an issue, but there are ways to mitigate the cost.

As for the dirt? I absolutely love the program. I love my professors, I love the atmosphere, I love my cohort ... it's almost magical. Not that there aren't problems (I can't imagine a program made up of human beings existing without problems), but the program is flexible, and the people in charge are willing to listen. I prioritized being happy and comfortable (as opposed to being used for research slave labor) for the next 6+ years of my life. Yes, I will be a slave to my debt after I graduate, but at least that will be more on my own terms.
For me, the research fit was perfect and I REALLY clicked with my adviser. Honestly, I think the fit with who you work with should be among any prospective Ph.D. graduate student's top priorities.

I have a friend at Suffolk. Though funding is an issue, like mclash commented, the culture seems good. My friend seems pretty happy and enjoys the teaching and research she's doing.

I am a student there as well and I love it. I cant tell you how supportive and understanding the faculty are. Best decision I ever made.

I'm wondering if anyone can share with me (via PM) what their experience interviewing at Suffolk was like. Based on the interview day schedule it looks like it is going to be very different than what I have experienced in other interviews. This is my top choice and I really want to be prepared, so I figured there would be no harm in asking. Thank you in advance!!!
